Quarter 2, Week 8: Assignments

Week 7 practice sheets are now due. Week eight practice sheets were handed out.  Horns must go home over break.

6th Band: Start Book 2
Scales: review Bb in book 2
Book 2: p. 7
Band Pieces: Northridge Overture.
Test on Friday: none

Tuesday: percussion w/Mr. L.

7th and 8th grade band
Warm-up: start on the second page of scales.
Book: p. 11, 12
Band Pieces: Eagle Mountain, General Green and Jazz.

Test and Seating: Bb Chromatic scale, C minor harmonic scale, and Atlantic Crossing - on going: be ready in chorus too.

Will Watch the concert video probably on Thursday.

Quarter 2, Week 8: Announcements

    Sunday, December 13th, 2009

1) Band practice times are now due every week. This is the last week I will collect for the quarter.  Please get all sheets in.

2) Assignments and announcements can be found both on webgrader and blackboard for 6th and 7/8 band.

3) All students need to have their horn, sticks/mallets, and all materials at rehearsals. 6th grade band students should have Accent on Achievement Book 2 by Monday the 14th.

4) 7th and 8th concert Monday: Great job everyone!!!  …especially the orchestra that had to deal with a different conductor.

5) I will start talking about solo contest this week and immediately after we get back in January.  The date is the same that is on the calendar, but the host school changed it again back to the date of the musical at the last minute.  That is too early and impossible for us to do.  Therefore, we will have our own at Metcalf.  I hope more will participated because it is local.

5) The first jazz band meeting will be Wednesday, December 16th at 7:30 am.  All students interested need to come to that meeting or talk to me in advance.  All instruments are accepted except if I have too many rhythm section players.  That might be auditioned and grade seniority will apply.

A select few are not turning in sheets and their grades are reflecting that. I will also be checking to make sure sheets are accurate as I’m getting some great times but horns are not going home. Please make sure they are accurate.

December 7th Concert Reminder and Instructions - handed out to students

•    Monday, December 7th at 7:00 PM is our 7th-8th concert in Hayden.
•    All students are required to be there unless there is an approved serious emergency.
•    Call time:  be in your assigned locations ready to warm-up quietly at 6:30 (chorus 6:50).
•    Concert Dress:  Good dress up clothes – no jeans, tennis shoes, shorts, and sports attire – look good!
•    Band will rehearse in the auditorium that morning, so be on time with your instruments.
•    Students will sit in the auditorium and watch the other groups unless other arrangements are made in advance.
•    Good concert etiquette will be enforced and graded.  NO talking or getting up during a performance.  Respect the performers like they respect your performance.
•    We may need help after the concert moving equipment.  Please help! Please PRACTICE your parts over the next week.  Mark consistent wrong notes.  Make sure you KNOW everything marked in the music and are applying everything we’ve talked about in class.
•    All students MUST be filling out their practice sheets.
•    Music played at this concert will be used for a quarter test and seating.

Week five practice sheets are being handed out and will cover two weeks rather than one.  I am one day off on the 6th practice dates, so please just follow the dates, and I’ll adjust accordingly.   I need to see horns going home - especially 7/8 band with the concert December 7th.

If week one and two practice sheets are not turned in, a zero will be entered. Time sheets can be submitted and the zero removed any time until the end of the quarter, but full credit will not be given.  Accuracy of the times are important.  I need to see horns going home.
