Acknowledged – To be recognized as important; To be accepted.


Ammunition – Bullets, cannon balls, and any other objects that can be fired from guns.


Anonymous – A person who’s name it not known and cannot be identified.


Chronicled – To provide details about an event; To write a narrative report.


Discreetly – Secretly; without anyone else knowing.


Enlisted – To engage or participate in a service or enterprise.


Heroism – The act of being brave; courage.


Incidents – Events; stories; situations.


Inferior – Lower in rank or value.


Linen – Cloth made of flax.


Loyalists – People who remained loyal to the British government during the American Revolution.


Manufactured – To create a product from raw material(s) such as cloth, wood, metal, etc.


Matross – A soldier in the artillery who swabbed, loaded, and fired a cannon; a gunner; a cannoneer.


Militia – A group of able-bodied male citizens called to fight only in emergencies.


Patriots – People who loved, supported, and defended their land and fought for their rights to become an independent country.


Petitioned – To request formally in an oral or written form.


Pension – A sum of money given to people after they retire from service at any profession.


Persona – A role that one assumes or plays; A character that one pretends to be.


Petticoat – A slip that is worn by women under long skirts. It is often full and trimmed with lace.


Plantation – Several fields that are under cultivation; A large plot of land owned and cultivated by a family.


Prized Possessions – Personal belongings that are cherished or valued by the owner.


Rations – A fixed portion of food allotted to a person in times when supplies are low. Women camp followers were given half of the rations provided for the soldiers. If they had any children, each child received one-fourth of the full rations.


Redcoats – The British soldiers during the American Revolution.


Responsibilities – Duties; roles that a person is required to fill.


Satirized – To exaggerate or poke fun at; To attack the weakness or mistakes of people.


Suspicious – Suspect wrong doing; Distrustful.
