About Dr. Jannot
My interests in biology started at a very young age by getting involved in the typical stuff: caterpillars in jars, crayfish fights, catching snakes, picture books of sharks. My undergraduate career at Allegheny College started on the pre-med track, but I quickly switched to philosophy. That is, until I met my undergraduate mentor and long-time friend, Scott Wissinger. Scott opened my eyes to Ecology as a career. After spending several summers in western Colorado working with Scott, I finally graduated from Allegheny and spent several years doing a number of different biological jobs as: an environmental technician for Idaho Power Company, a fisheries biologist in Alaska for the National Marine Fisheries Service, an aquatic ecologist with the U.S. EPA in the Midwest, and a fisheries technician with the U.S. Forest Service in Montana, just to name a few. I returned to academia in 1999 to complete a Master's degree in Biology at Montana State University-Bozeman. That was followed directly by a Ph.D. program in Biology at Purdue University. From 2005-09, I led an undergraduate research program at Illinois State University. In Fall 2009, I joined the faculty of the Department of Biology, at Winthrop University.
