Educational Philosophy
As a teacher, I have come to view learning as a lifelong process. For me this means learning about new philosophies and strategies as well as learning from my colleagues and students. Children have taught me to open my mind and heart to the diversity this world holds. I strongly believe that the children are our future and that each child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world. As a teacher, I will strive to develop their potential by recognizing and encouraging them as individuals. In order for children to feel comfortable discovering who they are, I must provide them a sense of pride. By creating a caring and safe environment, each student will feel free to grow in any and all directions. As I aim to show my students how to become responsible for themselves as well as their learning, I will be providing them with the tools necessary to be successful in life.
In the near future, my goal and great desire is to teach middle school students. Because I have recognized and realized the impact of becoming a lifelong learner has one, I wish to teach young adolescents and evolve with them every day. Although, I do have knowledge and experiences to pass onto my students, I want to work with them in order to help them become their own learning advocates. I understand that standards must be incorporated into my curriculum and as a teacher I will have guidelines to follow and certain subjects to cover, but it will be vital to take these subjects and relate them in some way, shape, or form in order to form connections with the world. Adolescents need to see, create, and discover endless connections. In order to achieve this, teachers must offer varied instruction in their classroom. Students need to be presented with different situations, presentations, and activities to explore the content from numerous perspectives.
Aside from creating lifelong learners, and making connections between content and curriculum I strongly believe that students need to be exposed to a positive and stimulating environment. As a teacher, I love to learn and part of my job is to display that desire and excitement that learning evokes in me to my students. It is important to note that I realize that not all students come to school excited to learn and not all students come from a family that values education. In fact, all my students will have different values and beliefs about education. It’s vital to take the time to understand your students and then appreciate what they bring to your classroom. A love and desire for learning takes time. By providing students the time, experiences, and support to reach for something new and unknown is what teaching is all about. I will earnestly endeavor to impart the joy of learning and the life changing impact of education on all my students.
