Arms Transfers and Coups d'État is an NSF-supported project assessing the effect of international arms shipment on the occurrence of African coups (Award Number: SBR-9320554). Data were collected over the period 1971-90 for 35 sub-Saharan African countries. An abstract of the publication (in the Journal of Peace Research) is available here, as are the brief documentation and data. A related data file, "African Coup Events Data: 1986-1990," containing the non-aggregated coup events data for 45 African countries for the period of 1986-90 is available at the ICPSR data archive (Archive Number 6869).
